Product Information
The Superhead is a simple yet effective way to seperate the dirty roof run- off from nice clean water so you always have clean rainwater in your water tanks. It combines a leaf filter, insect screen, first flush filter and rain head into one simple product.
The Superhead is designed to suit tanks with a side inlet (like the Supertank) however it can be adapted to suit tanks with a top inlet, or if the unit is to be installed on a wall or other location away from the tank.
The Superhead can be installed anywhere between the gutters and the water tank to filter the water before it enters the tank. Your roof and gutters collect all sorts of rubbish and pollution, especially if it hasn't rained for some time. The Superhead has 3 different filters to keep pollutants and debris out while also maximising the amount of water you collect.
1. Large Leaf and Debris Screen
The first stage filter is the large leaf screen. Leaves and other debris are prevented from entering the tank by a 10mm screen. Any debris collected simply falls off.
2. Adjustable First Flush System
The first 10 litres* of rain is diverted to a standard 90mm downpipe (not included) so that dirt and other polutants from the roof don't enter the water tank. Once the First Flush System has filled the internal flap will close and divert clean water through the rear outlet and into the tank.
A drain on the bottom of the First Flush System can be adjusted to alter the rate the system drains. During periods of frequent rain it is not necessary to completely flush the whole system each time. By changing the drainage rate you can maximise the amount of water collected.
*The flush volume depends on the length of downpipe used. Storage volume of 90mm pipe is 6.4 Litres per metre
3. Insect Screen
The final filtration is done with 1mm stainless steel mesh that will stop any insects or floating debris that may enter the tank.
4. Rain Head
The Superhead has the configuration of a typical rain head so that it fits with standard plumbing and drainage systems. In many cases you can simply replace your existing rain head with a SUPERHEAD!.

There are two ways to install the Superhead depending on your situation. Refer to the drawings on the right to help you determine which method is most suitable for you.
METHOD 1- The 'DIRECT' Method
Use the direct method when you have a tank with a side inlet, and can connect the Superhead directly to the tank. This method is best for when connecting directly to the SUPERTANK system. Click here to see more detailed instructions
METHOD 2- The 'ADAPTER' Method
Use this method when you CANNOT connect directly to the side of tank. You can use this method if you have a top inlet, or would like to mount the Superhead against a wall or other structure away from the tank. You then direct the water to the tank using 90mm pipe. You simply join the pipe to the rear of the Superhead and to direct the water wherever you want. You will need to use the ADAPTER BRACKETS if you choose this method. THE DIRECT METHOD
1. Locate the Superhead in a suitable position above the maximum water level of the tank. You should select a location where there is at least 1.5m unobstructed below the Superhead. The unit will also drip water for several days after rain so you should position it over a drain or garden.
If there is no hole in the side of the tank you will need to cut one. CONSULT THE TANK MANUFACTURER BEFORE CUTTING HOLES IN THE TANK. The hole should be a 90mm diameter hole.
2. Fix the Superhead to the tank using suitable fixings and fill any gap between the hole and tank with silicone or suitable filler.
3.
Cut a piece of 90mm pipe so that it almost reaches the ground below the Superhead. (SEE PHOTO 2)
Fit the cap with adjustable drain to one end of the pipe using pipe cement. Then secure it to the pipe with a rivet or stainless steel screw. (SEE PHOTO 3)
4.
Connect the pipe and cap to the Superhead using pipe cement. Secure it to the Superhead with a rivet or stainless screw.
Early models may have a slot on the back of the bottom outlet so that metal pipes can be used. Make sure the gap is filled with silicone to prevent the first- flush pipe from leaking
5.
Secure the pipe if required using suitable downpipe brackets.
Adjust the drain at the base so that it drips at around 1 drip per second. Increase drip rate to increase the first flush volume.
6.
Paint if required taking care not to obstruct the rotating flap of the Superhead.
THE ADAPTER METHOD
1. Fit the adapter brackets to the Superhead using the nuts and bolts provided and loosely tighten. If using ADAPTER METHOD 2 then you will also need to attach a suitable bracket (not included) to connect to the top of the tank.
2.
Fit the 90° elbow to the rear outlet of the Superhead. If you are unsure of the exact position the elbow should face then connect without using pipe cement for now.
3.
Locate the Superhead in a suitable position above the maximum water level of the tank. You should select a location where there is at least 1.5m unobstructed below the Superhead. The unit will also drip water for several days after rain so you should position it over a drain or garden
Mark the location of the holes.
4.
Drill the holes and connect the Superhead to the wall or tank using suitable fixings. BEWARE OF DEBRIS ENTERING THE TANK WHEN CUTTING OR DRILLING THE WATER TANK.
5.
Cut a piece of 90mm pipe so that it almost reaches the ground below the Superhead. You can use 2 x 45° elbows to move the position of the downpipe closer to the wall/ tank. (SEE PHOTO 2 ABOVE)
6.
Fit the cap with adjustable drain to the pipe using pipe cement. Then secure it to the pipe with a rivet or stainless steel screw (SEE PHOTO 3)
Connect the pipe and cap to the Superhead using pipe cement. Secure it to the Superhead with a rivet or stainless screw.
Early models may have a slot on the back of the bottom outlet so that metal pipes can be used. Make sure the gap is filled with silicone to prevent the first flush leaking.
7.
Connect the outlet pipe to the back of the Superhead with the 90° elbow. Secure connections with pipe cement.
Secure all pipes using suitable downpipe brackets and tighten the adapter bracket nuts and bolts
Adjust the drain at the base so that it drips at around 1 drip per second. Increase drip rate to increase the first flush volume.
8. Paint if required taking care not to obstruct the rotating flap of the Superhead.
